Cleanliness Should Be Ensured Immediately; No One Should Be Hurt Due to Bad Odour: Syed Mohammad Qadri

On the eve of Eid-ul-Adha, an important discussion session was organized here in which religious and social aspects related to Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha) were discussed in detail. Religious scholars appealed to the Muslim community to observe not only the ritual of sacrifice but also the practical teachings and responsibilities associated with Eid-ul-Adha.

Addressing the gathering, Syed Mohammad Qadri said, “Qurbani is not merely a ritual, but a shining symbol of obedience, sacrifice, and closeness to Allah for a believer. It is a sacred act in which a person offers what is dear to them for the pleasure of Allah, expressing complete devotion. However, the true spirit of worship lies not only in sincere intention but also in its impact. If a good deed causes inconvenience, discomfort, or hardship to others, its spirit becomes affected. Since Qurbani is a means of seeking closeness to Allah, it should not include any aspect that becomes a cause of pain or trouble for His creation.”

He said it is unfortunate that during Eid-ul-Adha, streets and roads sometimes become scenes of disorder and inconvenience instead of reflecting the beauty of worship. Roads meant for public movement are blocked with temporary barriers, animals are taken through the streets in a disorderly manner, and after sacrifice, remains, blood, and waste are left lying around for long periods. This leads to foul smell, unhygienic surroundings, and difficulties for passersby. “Qurbani is meant for the pleasure of Allah, not to cause hardship to His people,” he added.

Remove Harmful Things From Pathways

Syed Mohammad Qadri said Islam gives great importance to the rights of pathways and public spaces. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) described roads as a reflection of human character and ethics. In a narration from Sahih Muslim, five rights of the road are mentioned: lowering one’s gaze, avoiding causing harm, returning greetings, encouraging good, and preventing evil.

He said all these teachings are based on providing comfort, respect, and goodness to humanity. In another Hadith, while describing the branches of faith, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that the highest level of faith is declaring “La ilaha illallah”, while the lowest is removing something harmful from the path. This shows that keeping roads clean and caring for public convenience is also a sign of faith.

Cleanliness and Helping Others Are Acts of Virtue

Quoting a narration from Jami’ Tirmidhi, he further said guiding a lost person, helping a blind person, removing stones, thorns, bones, or anything harmful from the road, and even pouring water from one vessel into another for someone else are all considered acts of charity (sadaqah)

These teachings make it clear that the spirit of Islam is to provide relief, cleanliness, and goodness not negligence or behavior that causes discomfort to others, he said.

Cleaning Waste Immediately Is Also Part of Worship

Maulana Syed Mohammad Qadri said it should remain in everyone’s mind that keeping roads open before Qurbani, maintaining access for people, and immediately cleaning the waste and remains after sacrifice are also part of this act of worship. Worship is complete only when it pleases Allah and also brings comfort to His creation. The beauty of Qurbani lies not only in performing the sacrifice, but also in ensuring that no passerby faces inconvenience and no person suffers because of our actions,” he said.
