The Indian Journalist Association has raised its voice against the lack of FIR of attack on a journalist.

Emails sent to the Chief Minister, DGP, and Press Council, demanding the suspension of the guilty inspector.

Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The Indian Journalist Association has launched a campaign against the failure to register an FIR in the murderous attack on senior Jhansi journalist Mohammad Kalam Qureshi and the fraudulent disposal of the case through IGRs.

National President Seraj Ahmad Quraishi, through letter number IJA/2026/77, has sent an email to the Chief Minister, DGP Lucknow, Press Council of India, ADG Kanpur Zone, District Magistrate, and Senior Superintendent of Police Jhansi, demanding action.

What is the matter: On April 18, 2026, Vishal, Salman, Anees alias Annu, Ali Qureshi, and others attacked journalist Kalam with sticks and sharp weapons. His life was saved by Dial 112. It is alleged that Bijauli outpost in-charge SI Pawan Jaiswal neither conducted a medical examination nor filed an FIR. On April 26th, a false IGRS settlement was filed stating, "The applicant did not appear," even though the victim has photo evidence of his presence at the outpost, including GPS location. Video and medical reports were also not included in the investigation. Despite a complaint to the SSP and CO Sadar during the Tehsil Day on May 2nd, no action was taken.

The Indian Journalist Association main demands:

1. The guilty outpost in-charge, Pawan Jaiswal, should be suspended and a departmental inquiry should be conducted.

2. A case should be registered against the attackers under sections 109, 115(2), 126(2), and 351(3) of the IPC.

3. Journalist Mohammad Kalam Qureshi should be provided security.

Seraj Ahmad Quraishi stated that the attack on the journalist is an attack on the fourth pillar of democracy. If action is not taken within seven days, the association will launch a nationwide movement, for which the administration will be responsible.
