A public statement by Prime Minister Sushila Karki went viral on social media, the Muslim community expressed strong objection. The clip circulating widely appeared to be edited, not the full footage. Since the Prime Minister's Office did not clarify, the statement was taken as the Prime Minister's official view, which deeply upset the Muslim community.Former State Minister and Constituent Assembly member Mohammad Zakir Hussain issued a press statement calling the PM's remarks baseless, misleading, and harmful to social harmony. He criticized it as shameful and inappropriate for someone in the constitutional position of Prime Minister to present wrong facts targeting any religious community. The statement questions the motive behind the PM's comment in the sensitive current environment. It stresses that determining right or wrong on Hindu-Muslim matters is not the PM's responsibility. The PM’s claim that "redress is with Arya, not with Muslims" unfairly accuses the Muslim community and risks unnecessary social tension.Hussain challenged the historical accuracy of the PM's claim questioning, "In which Muslim nation are women buried alive?" He compared that with incidents like burning alive or killing after rape recurring in their own society. He highlighted that Prophet Muhammad ended inhumane Arabian traditions including burying daughters alive, sati, and slavery, and reminded historical Muslim rulers in India also ended sati. The statement also rejects the idea that Muslim women are denied education, noting notable female participation in Arab government and private sectors and comparable school attendance of Muslim girls in Nepal.Hussain warned of any attempt to undermine Nepal’s renowned religious tolerance and called on the Prime Minister to withdraw the misleading remark immediately. The Muslim community stressed their commitment to peace, stability, and harmony, rejecting any hurt to religious sentiments as unacceptable coming from the executive head. The statement also questioned why the Cabinet lacks Muslim representation if the PM is genuinely concerned about Muslim and women's rights, asking if there is no qualified Muslim to be a minister in Nepal. In conclusion, Hussain urged Prime Minister Sushila Karki to retract her comment and adopt a responsible, studied, and fact-based stance on sensitive issues
